Master Class for Aspiring Conductors

Since 1997 the Moscow Symphony Orchestra has offered annual master classes for young aspiring conductors from around the world.

Each year, during the selection process, young conductors receive the opportunity to direct the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. Under the direction of superb instructors, the young musicians receive invaluable conducting experience.

Jorma PanulaEach day one of the aspiring musicians conducts the large orchestra. The sessions are videotaped and the session is followed by a critique and commentary by the master instructor: the maestro points out the strengths and weaknesses of the young conductor’s performance. The repertoire of the participants in the master classes expands to include the works of Russian and international composers.

For the last 8 years, master classes have been led by Jorma Panula - professor at the Sibelius Academy since 1973, and Professor at the Stockholm and Copenhagen Royal Academies. Traditional master classes are held in the recital hall of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, ToneStudio located at MosFilm.
