Charity Projects and Music for ChildrenSince 1997, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra has taken an active role in charitable activities: a memorial concerts were held in memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide, and a charity concert for the Association of Physicians were held. During the last several years the ÌSÎ has been involved with winners of the competition "Youthful Ensembles of the Arts" and with winners of the fund "New Names". MSO musicians support and promote the ideals and goals of international children’s funds. In November 1997, the MSO performed a charity concert benefiting the Ronald McDonald Children’s Charity Fund, with all proceeds going towards their center for disabled children in Moscow. In 2004, the MSO performed a concert in support of “KidSave International”, an international charitable organization with particular emphasis on the problems affecting orphans.
Since 1997, the Moscow International House of Music and the MSO, under the direction of Maestro Vladimir Ziva, have organized regular children’s concerts “Playing Together” which aim to develop and foster children’s creative potential. The author and presenter of these programs is Vladimir Ziva. The direct participation of small listeners in the execution of the concert is their unique mark. These performances are constructed in the format of a "concert-game" where the young spectators not only listen to music, but also take an active role in the production: singing, dancing and conducting. The musicians in turn, tell anecdotes from the life of composers and allow the young audience to try out the instruments. Since 2002 MSO musicians regularly visit schools, including school ¹ 1122, the 3rd Moscow Cadets Corps and at Zhukov children’s fund “Rainbow”. All concerts have experienced enormous success and popularity amongst the students, and the MSO receives constant letters of thanks from these institutions.
Projects and initiatives that address children remain the closest and most important charitable actions to the MSO. The upcoming season promises to continue this tradition of charitable concerts benefiting youth.
